Asus gives an excellent performance in the new powerful Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition GL703VM. The ASUS RoG Strix GL703VM is a heavy performance laptop that is not that heavy and big. Moving the game console between rooms seems to be a grand operation. With the new Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition, this is no exception.

ROG GL703VM Successor of GL703VD and GL702VI:

Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition

Despite the faster GPU, the GL703VM is equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate display, which is far better than the 60Hz panel that we found in recent Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition (GL703VD). It also lighter than the Rog Strix GL702VI.

In new GL703VM during GPU hungry games or in high performance, fan noise is pretty noticeable up. During games, the noise is enough high to disturb the games sound. Also, there is a temperature throttling needs to improve.

The old GL703VD is also thin and light although the performance is comparatively low. It also Lacks g-sync options and the high refresh rate panel.

But the new GL703VM comes with all the latest and greatest options. Such as a g-sync available 120 Hz screen refresh rate with the power up GTX 1060 graphic card (GPU). However, these features have a high cost but reliability is acceptable.

Asus ROG Scar Edition [GL703VM] Features:

The most interesting fact about the new Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition GL703VM is the 120Hz refresh rate screen. According to Asus, it is AUO’s screen technology. Although the higher refresh rate can bring smoother animation and gameplay in most games.

While the Panel is 5-millisecond response rate as Asus say’s. You will experience a good bright colourful flat display.  By mean good display, it is because of the display high SRGB and Adobe RGB rate. The monitor also does not support G-Sync, and there will be some very slight screen tears during the game, only serious players will notice this. On the other hand, PWM does not exist.

Asus Rog Strix GL703VM Performance:

Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition

Intel i7-7700HQ is pretty familiar gaming processor from a couple of years. From past few years, it performs exceptionally in many gaming laptops. And it is a decent processor till now. It has four cores, and additional Hyper-Threading perform multitasking easily.

The Asus ROG Strix GL703VM perform blazing fast with i7-7700HQ, overclock up to 3.9 GHz. With such boost up you can enjoy any AAA title game without hiccups. But there is minor heating up problem. But VR is performed quite well and fast.

In performance CPU test GL703VM scores 600 CB which is an average score. The HDD test is slow because of slow 5400 RPM Hard drive, not 7200 RPM. While the GPU perform well and actually excellent in benchmarks.

GTX 1060 is a good choice of GPU because of its performance and also VR supported. The GTX 1060 scores 12000 in Fire Strike benchmarks and makes overall gaming performance fabulous. Most of the graphically hungry games run smoothly in this GPU, make this real gaming GPU.

The Witcher 3 and Batte Field 1 gives around 60 to 70 fps at high/Ultra settings and for most of AAA titles. 120 refresh rate panel is enjoyable for most of the gamers. It performs well in AA title games rather than AAA title games. Such as League of Legends and Dota 2 will enjoyable on 120 Hz panel and should approach to 120 FPS in such games.

These type of games just makes display stunning than standard 60 Hz. At extended usage or long time gameplay the Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition GL703VM Performance remains stable. The device performs well as a gaming laptop but not as a daily task laptop. Gaming is fast with good quality display and excellent quality builds.

Rog Strix GL703VM Storage:

The M.2 SSD in Rog Strix GL703VM is pretty much fast actually much faster than its HDD. The GL703VM comes with two different types of SSD’s (SATA / NVMe). Additional 5400 RPM HDD (mechanical hard drive) is average, means slow as compared to 5700 RPM Hard drive.

HDD storage, Apps runs good, not excellent and for large files took pretty much time to load. A simple solution is to change the HDD with 7200 HDD to get faster storage.

Battery Life of Rog Strix Scar Edition GL703VM:

The Battery Life of Rog Strix Scar Edition GL703VM is very dependent on GPU extensive tasks. Due to the 120 Hz display panel, the Graphics were always in juice. Also, gtx 1060 is power hungry GPU most of the times.

Since the Graphics are always in use and the GTX 1060 in power and lack of Nvidia Optimus technology. Which helps the battery whole time, even during the WiFi and other different tasks.

The disappointment with strix gl703vm has lacked Nvidia Optimus technology. Which is seen in the previous model GL703VD. But GL703VD has lack of 120 Hz panel because it uses standard 60 Hz display with the Nvidia Optimus technology.

This tech helps battery with switching the system to integrated Intel HD Graphics or onboard graphics. At the resulting user found pretty long battery life. From my point of view, this feature is amazing but absent in GL703VM.

[The Batter Life is just 2 hours with normal use.]

Rog Strix Scar Edition Price GL703VM:

As this laptop is pretty much powerful but also lacks in few features considering the price is huge. There are other laptops with the same specs and comes in the comparatively lower price tag. The Price of Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition GL703VM Laptop is around $1500 USD.
