Acer Predator Helios 300 2018 Review, Best Budget Laptop

Acer Predator Helios 300 is one of the best selling 2017 Gaming Laptops. Acer doesn’t make cheap gaming laptops but the Acer Predator Helios 300 one of first mid-range laptop in the Acer Predator series. Making this new Predator for budget users without spending a couple of thousands for a gaming laptop.

The Predator Helios 300 comes with the latest Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics, and penalty powerful seventh-gen Intel i7th Quad-Core processors. These qualities making this top of the mid-range category with GTX 1060.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 (starting from US$1,099.99) offers a powerful, VR-grade Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU that is less expensive than the competition runs around the GTX 1050 Ti laptops. Acer competing with budget laptops to use that price.

The weight of Helios 300 is slightly larger than other mainstream gaming laptops. But it is lighter as compared to Asus ROG Strix GL553VD and Lenovo’s Legion Y520. Both of these laptops weighs 5.6 pounds which is slightly heavier than the Acer Helios 300.

In term of ports selection, the predator Helios 300 has many ports as any good gaming notebook. The Ethernet port with a USB Type-C, USB 3.0 and HDMI are located on the left side of the laptop. while other ports are on the right side along with power supply. These ports include a pair of USB 2.0 ports and an SD-card slot with a headphone jack.


Storage and Performance of Predator Helios 300:

Predator Helios 300 comes with a lot of storage options. Which is sufficient for the most important games and large size files. If you need more, you can connect an external hard drive at any time with USB 3.0. Although it contains 256GB solid state drive (SSD) and 1TB 7200RPM hard drive. Which is enough space for most of the users?

It comes with Windows 10 64 bit preinstalled. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphic card with 6 GB of V-RAM is the main selling point of Helios 300.

All these configurations make this a stunning fast graphical monster. In fact, it looks just like other Predator series laptops, same design and logo. In addition to screen size and storage options, the seventh-gen Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor is blazing fast at 2.8 to 3.8 GHz clock speed.

Other components include 16GB of memory, solid-state drive (SSD) storage and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics. Predator Helios 300 with the Pascal-based GTX 1060 graphics gives the desktop level graphics performance. Despite the lack of G-Sync technology.

For storage, the Predator gets an additional 1TB hard drive on a basic model 256GB SSD. If larger screens and more storage space inspire your interest, you should seriously consider its accessibility features.


Predator Helios 300 VR Ready Gaming:

The Predator Helios 300 with 6GB V-RAM of GTX 1060 GPU is very valuable for VR gaming. The performance of this GPU in VR is remarkable and it shows its possibilities. The performance test of Games played by Acer Predator Helios 300.

The AAA title game “Mass Effect” on 1080 Ultra setting gives 70 to 80 frames per second. It drops to 64 frames during the battles.

In another AAA title game “The Rise of Tomb Raider” 1080p at Ultra high setting gives 60 to 67 FPS. This is more than an average gaming notebook. which is about 36 FPS?

There are other Laptops with desktop graphics.  Such as ASUS ROG DH72 and the Origin EON15, last only 2 and half hours. This may be because of their processing power compared to Predator Helios 300.
